Cupcakes...The Rage
Recently, my daughter and I decided to give our culinary palettes a divine treat...Gigi's Cupcakes. This was totally an unintentional delight. The day before the Country Music Marathon we couldn't find parking in downtown Nashville. So we dropped off my husband and younger daughter to collect their race packets and before we knew it we were at least 20 blocks away at Gigi's. I enjoyed the Midnight Magic Chocolate Chip as she indulged in the Miss Princess. What a guilty pleasure we were enjoying when my phone rang...it was the marathoners wondering where we were. With a mouthful of frosting and chocolate cake, I had to confess.
To my amazement, cupcakes are the rage. You can order them online for almost any occasion to be shipped just about anywhere. They are replacing traditional wedding cakes, appearing at baby showers, and being used as "cheer you ups" just to name a few of the wonderful ways folks are enjoying them. Beautifully packaged they make a great gift for anyone. What a throwback to the fifties, eat your hearts out, June Cleaver and Donna Reed.
This fall the Curious Cupcake is opening on Main Street in Historic Franklin. Just three blocks from my home and two blocks from my office. My taste buds can hardly wait. My self control will be challenged.
What a great way to make someone smile, enjoy a cupcake with them! For more creative and delicious ideas go to Watercooler Wednesdays at Ethos.

I love cupcakes. La Grande Orange in Phoenix has the best cupcakes EVER. My son goes to HS in an older part of town. 1 block from his school there is a church, probably built in the cool & vibey 60's that is shaped like a cupcake. Well, they probably don't think it looks like one, but believe me, it just needs the paper wrapper around it and you'd be convinced that it's a cupcake factory. In fact, ever since I made the cupcake connection, I've talked (half-serious/half-joking) about buying the church one day and converting it to a Cupcake Bakery & store!

We had cupcakes last night. They were delicious. My three boys can't get enough of them.

Last fall on vacation I went to a little cupcake stand on South Congress in Austin. It's an old Air Stream trailer that they converted. I thought I'd try it out--wow! 24Karrot (Carrot cake with Cream cheese). I got mine and a glass of milk and sat at the table and watched the world go by. Totally awesome.... thanks for the reminder Chris--I'm going to get me a cupcake now!

You are right! They are the rage and so fun. I have a recipe for a Some'more cupcake I've yet to try where you torch marshmallow cream on top. How fun is that? I think you'll do just fine with self control if you only buy ONE. It's the whole cake that gets me in trouble.

I love cupcakes and some of the best I've tried lately are actually from Mindy Hyatt Spradlin's cousin - www.cuppycakesbakery.com. She's done orders for Amy & Vince Gill & Hanna Montana & now for my twins 3 YO birthday party! You should give her a try if you need an event catered.

GiGi's cupcakes are the best!!!
We were in Nashville last Thursday meeting with our management team. Since it happened to also be my birthday, they surprised me with cupcakes and a little birthday serenade. Good times!
